Agapanthus Flower sketch with a square frame angled to the left with a grey background. January 2023 4" x 4" Agapanthus flowers have their genus name from the Greek words for love(agape) and flower(anthos). Agape represents divine love, and more specifically, love for humanity. Agapanthus has been considered a love charm since ancient times, and Xhosa women wore necklaces made of the roots. Zulu people have used Agapanthus flowers for anti-inflammatory purposes by winding the leaves around wrists and feet to help with fevers and swelling. These flowers have a symbol of love and devotion in many cultures, however, they are native to South Africa, Lesotho, Eswatini, and Mozambique.
