Acrylic painting of three blue Calla Lilies above two leaves in front of a dark blue background with a round frame and next to paintbrushes and paint. June 2024. 6" x 6" Blue Calla Lilies are associated with tranquility, calmness, and serenity. Despite the common name for these, they are not actually lilies. A Swedish Botanist incorrectly called them this, and then a German botanist named the genus Zantedeschia to correct the mistake. These flowers are also not native to Europe, but to South Africa, Lesotho, and Eswatini. In Afrikaans they are called Varkoor, which means pig's ear. In South Africa, the rhizome(underground stem) has been used for dressing wounds.
